How much cash do I need before I move to Ireland?

Most landlords ask for one month. A deposit cannot exceed two months rent under the Residential Tenancies Act.

Why another figure might differ

Relocation packages quoted by employers may give a lower figure. Employer estimates usually cover flights and temporary accommodation but not the deposit, which is the largest single item here.

What this assumes

  • Setup costs assume €400 per person: a PPSN appointment trip, a phone, transport and household essentials.
  • The float uses CSO Household Budget Survey spending for a household that size, excluding rent, at December 2025 prices.
  • It assumes you are renting from arrival rather than staying with family.
  • It does not include a car, private health insurance, or childcare.
